Medical-Grade Skincare in Thonotosassa, FL
Medical-grade skincare, matched to your skin.
At SpaRx Medical Aesthetics of Thonotosassa, we build a personalized medical-grade skincare plan around your skin, not a one-size-fits-all shelf. We carry Skinbetter Science and Epicutis and recommend the right regimen for your concerns under physician-led care, with custom-compounded options considered only when a physician determines they are appropriate.
Medical-grade skincare
What is medical-grade skincare?
The term "medical-grade" (sometimes called cosmeceutical or professional-grade) points to two things: the strength and quality of the active ingredients, and the fact that the products are chosen for you by a trained professional. Compared with most over-the-counter skincare, medical-grade lines use higher, better-stabilized concentrations of proven actives, are backed by clinical testing, and are formulated to penetrate the skin more effectively. Because those actives are stronger, guidance matters: the right products, in the right order, at the right pace for your skin. At SpaRx Medical Aesthetics of Thonotosassa, we carry Skinbetter Science and Epicutis and match a regimen to your concerns under physician-led care. In select cases, a physician may also direct a custom-compounded option when it is clinically appropriate. It works beautifully on its own and supports in-office treatments like microneedling and our full facials and aesthetics menu.
Medical-grade skincare vs over-the-counter
Drugstore skincare can be a fine starting point, but it is formulated for the mass market at lower active concentrations. Here is how medical-grade compares.
| Medical-grade skincare | Over-the-counter skincare | |
|---|---|---|
| Active strength | Higher, better-stabilized concentrations | Lower, mass-market concentrations |
| Clinical testing | Backed by clinical studies | Varies widely, often limited |
| Guidance | Matched to your skin by a professional | Self-selected off the shelf |
| Formulation | Designed to penetrate and perform | Often sits on the surface |
| Results | Targeted, more noticeable over time | Gentler, more general |
| Best use | A plan for specific concerns and goals | Basic daily maintenance |
Medical-grade skincare is not automatically right for everyone or every concern, which is exactly why the consultation matters. Your provider matches the strength and actives to your skin so you get results without over-doing it.
What medical-grade skincare targets
A personalized medical-grade regimen can address several concerns at once. These are the ones patients at SpaRx Medical Aesthetics of Thonotosassa ask about most, and the ones we build most plans around.

Fine lines & aging
Retinoids, peptides and antioxidants help soften the look of fine lines and support firmer, healthier-looking skin over time.

Uneven texture
Exfoliating actives and resurfacing ingredients smooth rough texture and help brighten a dull, tired-looking complexion.

Pigmentation & dark spots
Targeted brighteners and correctives help fade sun spots, post-blemish marks and uneven tone for a more even complexion.

Dehydration & barrier
Hydrators and barrier-supporting ingredients replenish moisture and strengthen the skin barrier, key in the Florida climate.
Skinbetter Science and Epicutis, plus physician-directed options
Rather than sell one product to everyone, SpaRx Medical Aesthetics carries two trusted medical-grade lines, Skinbetter Science and Epicutis, and matches the right one to your skin. Separately, and only when clinically appropriate, a physician may direct a custom-compounded option.
Your regimen may draw from one brand or combine both. Compounded options are never a default add-on; they are decided case by case through physician review. Not sure what belongs in your routine? That is what the consultation is for. Once your plan is set, you can browse and reorder through our Skinbetter Science shop and the full SpaRx Medical Aesthetics skincare shop.

Award-winning, clinically tested formulas that target the look of fine lines, uneven tone and rough texture. Patient favorites include the AlphaRet retinoid-and-acid line, Alto Defense antioxidant serum and Sunbetter mineral sun protection.
Best for: visible signs of aging, dark spots and uneven tone, texture and daily SPF.
A lipid-science line formulated around the skin's natural barrier, designed to support hydrated, calm and resilient-looking skin with a gentle, low-irritation approach. A strong fit when stronger actives need a supportive partner.
Best for: dry, dehydrated or sensitive skin, a stressed skin barrier and post-treatment skin.
Custom-compounded options
Not a product line. In select cases, after a consultation and a review of your history, a physician may direct a personalized compounded formulation when it is clinically appropriate. Read how physician-directed compounding works.
How it is decided: case by case, by physician review, only when appropriate for you.

What is custom-compounded skincare?
Custom-compounded skincare is a preparation made by a licensed pharmacy for an individual patient, based on a prescriber's order. At SpaRx Medical Aesthetics it is a physician-directed option considered case by case, not a retail product line or a standard part of every plan.
Whether a compounded formulation is appropriate is decided by Dr. Kendrick Heywood, MD, Anti-Aging Medicine & Integrative Wellness Physician, after a consultation and a review of your skin, health history, medications and current routine. Many patients never need one, because Skinbetter Science and Epicutis cover most skincare goals. If a compounded option is recommended, your provider will explain what it contains, how to use it and what to watch for, including possible side effects.
Custom-compounded skincare is available only by physician direction, when clinically appropriate for you. Compounded preparations are not FDA-approved, we do not make outcome claims about them, and individual results vary.
Is medical-grade skincare right for you?
Medical-grade skincare suits most people who want more from their routine than basic maintenance, whether you are just starting out or looking to level up results between treatments. The key is matching the strength and actives to your skin.
A consultation matters because stronger actives are not right for every skin at every moment. If you are pregnant or nursing, have very reactive or sensitized skin, an active flare or condition, or you are using prescription treatments already, your provider will adjust the plan accordingly or introduce actives more gradually. Let us know your history, any medications and what you currently use, and we will build a routine that is effective and comfortable for your skin, or point you to the right in-office treatment to pair with it.

A note on expectations: medical-grade skincare supports healthier, better-looking skin over time when used consistently, but it is not a medical treatment or a cure, and results build gradually and vary by person. Your provider will set honest expectations and recommend in-office treatments when they are a better fit for your goals.

Medical-grade skincare FAQs
What is medical-grade skincare? +
Medical-grade skincare is professional-strength skincare that uses higher, clinically tested concentrations of active ingredients and is dispensed and guided by a skincare professional. Compared with most over-the-counter products, it is formulated to penetrate the skin more effectively and is matched to your skin and goals rather than picked off a shelf.
Is medical-grade skincare worth it, or is drugstore skincare fine? +
Drugstore skincare can be a fine starting point for basic maintenance, but it is formulated for the mass market at lower active concentrations. Medical-grade lines use stronger, better-stabilized, clinically tested actives and are matched to your skin by a professional, so they tend to deliver more targeted, noticeable results over time. Whether it is worth it depends on your goals, which is exactly what the consultation sorts out.
What is the difference between medical-grade and over-the-counter skincare? +
The main differences are potency, testing and guidance. Medical-grade skincare uses higher concentrations of proven, clinically tested active ingredients, is designed to penetrate the skin, and is selected for you by a professional. Over-the-counter products use lower, mass-market concentrations, vary widely in testing, and are self-selected. Medical-grade is built around specific concerns and goals; drugstore products are better for general daily maintenance.
What skincare brands does SpaRx Medical Aesthetics carry? +
We carry Skinbetter Science, known for clinically tested formulas that target the look of aging, uneven tone and texture, and Epicutis, a lipid-based line focused on barrier health and calm, resilient-looking skin. Your regimen may draw from one brand or combine both, and your provider recommends the right mix at your consultation. Custom-compounded skincare is not a product line we sell; it is physician-directed and considered only when clinically appropriate.
What is custom-compounded skincare, and is it safe? +
Custom-compounded skincare is a preparation made by a licensed pharmacy for an individual patient, based on a prescriber's order. At SpaRx Medical Aesthetics it is physician-directed: Dr. Kendrick Heywood decides whether it is appropriate after a consultation and a review of your history. Compounded preparations are not FDA-approved, individual results vary, and your provider will explain what it contains, how to use it and possible side effects.
Do I need a consultation, or can I just buy the products? +
Because medical-grade actives are stronger, a quick skin consultation helps us match the right products, in the right order, at the right pace for your skin, so you get results without irritation. Once your plan is set, you can reorder your products through our online skincare shop. Prescription-strength and custom-compounded options are available only by physician direction, when appropriate.
What skin concerns can medical-grade skincare help with? +
A personalized medical-grade regimen can help with fine lines and early aging, uneven texture and dullness, pigmentation and dark spots, and dehydration or a compromised skin barrier. It also supports and extends the results of in-office treatments like microneedling, facials and peels. Results build gradually with consistent use and vary from person to person.
How much does medical-grade skincare cost at SpaRx Medical Aesthetics? +
Because products and recommendations vary from person to person, we confirm your plan and pricing at your free skin consultation rather than list a single price. This is a personalized recommendation, not a set-price, pre-booked service. Your provider reviews your skin and goals and builds a plan you can start when you are ready.
